I’ve been documenting this family once a month (minus a few during the beginning of the COVID outbreak)since January. I have a few families that I document that way for my Year In The life sessions. I started offering them as a way to help families preserve their memories in the form of a family yearbook. It was a last minute decision at the end of December 2019 when my own family yearbook showed up in the mail, and I don’t think I’ve ever felt more accomplished.
It’s been 8 months now with each family while we all wade the murky waters of the year 2020 has been. We’re all dealing with our own stressors of life while also sharing some of the same experiences. And it hit me last night. THIS is what life is about. The human experience is so beautifully chaotic in so many of the same ways but also a lot of different ones too. I never imagined I’d be documenting families through a global pandemic when I started booking YITL sessions, but honestly I’m glad I have. I’ve learned and grown so much this year through my own personal trials and tribulations, but the time I’ve spent with each of these families has taught so much more.
During a time in our history where life has slowed down, we’re spending more time at home, and we’re seeing more of the people that live in that home than ever before, I’m blessed to be walking alongside each of my clients. I have a deeper appreciation for each of their stories now.
