Oh, how time flies! It’s been a good few years since I’ve had the chance to hang out with local makers, delve into their creative process, and document their magic. But recently, I’ve been hit with a serious case of nostalgia and excitement to dive back into it. So, like any eager soul looking to pursue their passion, I took to Facebook and boy, did I strike gold! I stumbled upon a whole bunch of incredible people doing some really amazing things. After reaching out to quite a few individuals, I finally connected with Sarah, who has generously agreed to let me document her craft. It all came together beautifully, and I couldn’t be more thrilled and inspired!
We spent the morning together in Sarah’s home studio. She showed me around her workshop and talked to me about restoration and how she got to this point in her business. I got to see some hundreds years old pieces of glass, and we talked about how she obtains and chooses glass for each piece. The thought process behind each of her works of art is time consuming and meaningful, and listening to her talk about the things she’s passionate about had me enamored. I love having a behind the scenes look at businesses like hers!
Here’s a little of what Sarah said about her business:
“I moved to Ohio in 2008 to go to an Historic Preservation Trade schools. I took a basic class and fell in love so took another that focused solely on historic window restoration. Since then between moving all around and having now 3 kids (the youngest being a year) my glass art and business frequently took a backseat. Last year I decided I really wanted to try and make a go of it. I started signing up for events and tuning into local artisan resources like Pascha at the moonlight market and the art council of Morgantown. I still work full time and have limited shop time but last year was my best year ever. I try to do 1-2 events per season and I also do commissions.”
