Real Is Perfect

IMG_8458The past month or so of my client sessions have been filled with love stories and I’ve absolutely loved the opportunity to tell the story of a family before the children come. It means the world to me to be a part of the early chapters of a family. I love creating these images for them that will be shared with their future children and grandchildren. I love even more that my couples realize how important that is and make it a priority to have their story documented in this way.

Before any session, I send a questionnaire or two to get a better feel for what each family would like photographed and why. It is important for me to tell the story authentically, so  the questionnaire gives me a good idea of what a normal day for a family looks like, but delves deeper into WHY those things are so important to my client.   The questionnaire  gives my clients a chance to sit down and really think about their routines and connection without just going through the motions of it all. Sometimes families come to realize that the mundane things they’ve never thought about before actually hold a lot of meaning for them. Sometimes the questionnaire brings out feelings they didn’t know they had.

Because of the time spent before our session together, I knew this couple wanted “to have photos that capture how much we love each other in our tiny home. I want to remember these steps and our growth and our love and all the small things that make our little lives dreams come true. I want a memories of our beginning to share with my children and each other when we’re old and gray. We will look back and smile and I know he’ll still look at me the way he does now.”
