The Sun, The Moon, and All The Stars

There are moments during my job where I think my heart may pound straight out of my chest. Sometimes that’s because of a moment during a session. Sometimes it happens when I edit a photo that evokes an emotion. Sometimes it’s when another photographer emails me to schedule a session and my nerves get the best of me.

Melissa, owner of Melissa Rosic Photography, reached out to ask me to document an average evening for her family, and I immediately got nervous. Having one of the best photographers around ask you to photograph her family is nerve wracking. I was honored, don’t get me wrong, it’s just that the desire to impress was just heightened.

During a conversation about our session together, Melissa told me that the most accurate representation of their family would just be an evening at home making pizza and building with Legos, so that’s just what we did.

I loved how much she talked about her son, Evan, and described their family system as one that revolved around him.

Evan is the center of our world. We enjoy seeing him have fun. Most of our highlights have revolved around him.

Walking into their house, you can immediately see that this is true. His photos are all over their beautiful home. His Legos covered the table. His bright smile greeted me at the door. He quickly became the main character of this story. The center of their world. Their sun, moon, and stars.
