Cupcakes and Mud Puddles

I’ve known Sarah since middle school, but I didn’t really get to know her until I was hired to document her oldest son’s first birthday.

October 2017

At that time she was due with her second child and had just received news that her husband would be deployed after his birth. So they hired me to document their lives while he was away. Every three months we’d plan a date and document a morning or afternoon or evening with different members of their family so that Anthony, their father, could have a small piece of home.

Every one of my clients inspire me in different ways, but if I had to choose one person who pushes me to continue documenting even on the days I want to give up, it’s Sarah. There is a reason behind every session I document, but the reason behind these ones hits close to home. I’ve watched these boys grow up before my eyes, and knowing that their father is able to do the same, means the world to me.

Sarah is one of the strongest women I’ve ever met. She parents with such love and strength that I stand in awe behind my viewfinder sometimes.

This session breathed life into me, so I wanted to share a little bit of their story with you too. If you’re the praying kind, please be sure to keep her family, and others who live through the same thing, in your prayers as they continue to wait for their daddy to come home. I cannot wait to see them in his arms!
