A few things I love in no particular order:
*kids
*parents with a sense of humor
*puppies
*the beauty of real life
*big families
This session had all of those things and more. They reached out to me a while ago about the possibility of a documentary session, and the more I got to know, the more excited I got. They love each other hard, and that was evident to me in the communication I was having with them. Actually, just a couple of days ago Gabrielle, the mom of the family, sent me the most beautiful description of each of her children. She knows the depths of their souls, and it’s incredibly beautiful.
I was greeted at the door by two little ones with bouncing, blonde curls who immediately grabbed me by the hand and took me on a tour. One thing I know about kids is that they love to show off their rooms, and I love how much their personalities show through when I’m on their turf. Kids are good at making people feel welcome (and being themselves in front of a camera!)
I feel honored to be in the position I am as a family photographer. I get to see things from a different perspective. I get to see the ordinary with fresh eyes. I get to witness the bond each parent shares with each one of their children and the relationship between siblings. It’s so incredibly powerful to sit back and observe how insanely beautiful real life is without being influenced by the outside world.
